Inspired by her observations of shadows on the ground, the artist spent many months experimenting with a method to express objects in two dimensions on canvas. The object becomes a representation that is its own while the canvas is carrying an interpretation by painting of the object, particularly in the case of a living thing or food item, such as fruit or people. Alexa Meade's style of painting, which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only piece from her work that is preserved is the photograph. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved using the two processes of photographing and painting. This creates an unflattened and two-dimensional image. Meade often integrates her model in the environment around her and allows her to work within the world of their own. The distinctions between performance photography, installation and painting can be dissolved.
